CFPWoods informing and engaging our online audience about a better wood option.

CFPWoods has been offering great wood products and services for a long time. Our thermally modified wood really is some of the best you can get! Our technique goes like this:

  • Normal, natural wood is heated to temperatures of up to 180 degrees Celsius and preserved using steam
  • The color changes, creating a beautifully smooth brown shade—so no staining needed—due to caramelization of the naturally present glucose in the wood
  • The wood’s chemical and physical properties are permanently altered (and bettered!)
  • The woods stability, decay resistance, and insulation increases and its bending and swelling tendencies decrease due to its thermal modification

So, yeah, our thermally modified wood really does have additional benefits over traditionally ill harvested exotic woods. We like to say “Natural Wood, Un-Natural Performance.

The History of Thermally Modified Wood

Believe it or not, thermally modified wood was developed centuries ago by Vikings! Yep, that’s right. They discovered that wood, when thermally modified, was more resistant to the effects of nature. So, they used fire to alter the wood’s chemical makeup so that it could withstand their environment better.

The process, of course, has since been fine-tuned to perfection. Thermal modification is now a technical, computer-controlled process so that the craftsmen can ensure that the result is just right—every time. That way, you can count on the best quality. Plus, the process is totally eco-friendly!
